Who We Are

The Manhattan Plaza Clothing Exchange is the longest running tag sale of its kind in the NYC area.  We are an all-volunteer run group which was originally created almost forty years ago by young Hell's Kitchen area families who wanted to save their pennies and help each other out!


Initially, the sale was a child-centric event, but we have recently expanded to include adult clothing of all sizes in order to meet the needs of our community.  We are definitely still serving in the interest of our children and will continue to provide for as many as we can.  There are two events each year - one in the Spring and one in the Fall.  Both take place in the Manhattan Plaza Ellington Room at 400 W. 43rd Street, 2nd Floor.  We sell a variety of clothing, (all sizes and ages) toys, books, games and more!  All items are usually priced between $1-$5 depending on item size and condition.  Items left after the semi-annual sale are donated to charity.

How to Sell

1. Select a seller code unique to you.  This could be initials, a special nickname, whatever you choose!  


2. Email us at [email protected] with your contact info and your desired code and we will confirm its availability.  


3.  Tag your items for between 25C and $5.  Write your CODE and a PRICE on a piece of MASKING TAPE ONLY and use a SHARPIE MARKER for ease of identification.


4. Bag items (in something you don't mind leaving behind) and separate them by size or type.  Drop them off at the Manhattan Plaza Ellington Room during DESIGNATED TIMES ONLY, which can be found on our website above. 

5. Fill out ONE intake form and bring it with you to drop off.  You will receive an email with information about money pick-up the week after the sale.

What to Sell

1. CLOTHING - all types and sizes - including outerwear, HALLOWEEN COSTUMES are a big favorite!  Bring your own hangers to donate if you can.  NO INTIMATES

ACCESSORIES - hats, scarves, gloves, sunglasses, purses and wallets

BOOKS - all ages

TOYS & GAMES - electronic and otherwise.  Small pieces in baggies, please!

BABY GEAR - blankets and nursing gear, layette, strollers, car seats, etc.

Over-sized items may be optionally photographed and displayed for sale. Un-tagged items will sell at a price determined by the event chairperson.

Selling Tips

1. Use MASKING TAPE ONLY to tag your items and write the code and price clearly with SHARPIE MARKER.

NO DUCT TAPE OR PAINTERS TAPE

2. Items such as bicycles, tricycles, skateboards or hobby horses, book collections or fancy clothing are examples of things that you may choose to sell for more than $5.  Please do so at your own best discretion and remember that the goal of the sale is to help each other, not make a profit.  Feel free to email us with any questions.

3.  Small toys or others items you wish to keep together can be sold in clear plastic baggies and labeled with 2 sets of tape so that cashiers can remove the price without damaging the item.
